When I started this lovely photography business around 6 years ago, I aimed to shoot mostly newborns and babies. This entire venture was born from a hobby, started at the right time with blissful ignorance and fearlessness. Throughout the years, I have been asked to shoot events (one notably shot was the Hoboken Gala), headshots, products shots for ads, etc., but family portraiture has been my main focus for these years. This will continue to be my focus as I move forward; however, as the business has matured, so has my subject matter. I felt like my whimsical name was harder to put out to some companies I was working with, never mind their constant misspelling (you can probably guess some funny typos).
I’m working with lots of families these days, a few more businesses these days, and less newborns. I am still making joyful, artistic images for my family clients, but I’m happy to help out businesses with their needs, as well, by adding some creative images for their marketing needs. I will also be diving into some new and exciting waters, aimed at educating those that want to start up their own photography business. A lot of ideas have been brewing and I am so psyched to be exploring new avenues.
That all being said, because my business has matured a bit, my brand name must follow. Most of my clients know me by my first and last names, regardless, so it’s not a huge change for most. However, saying goodbye to the whimsical name of Poppy & Posey – meant to stand out among the namesake photography brands & appeal to the fun, sweet nature of babies – will be a little bittersweet. One thing is for sure though, I am ready to put my name on my work. There is a sense of joy and pride I feel with stamping my name on work I’m putting out to the world (this sharing part still scares me a bit to this day). And, the beauty of running my own gig is that I get to decide on things like this and just do it!
So onward with a new name! I’ll still be taking emails to the old address if anyone forgets, although most of you know where to find me. Thank you for coming along with me on this journey so far and I hope you enjoy what I put out there moving forward. I’ve been so blessed and am so grateful for everything thus far and I am looking forward to continual growth and learning.
